But as you may know, there’s usually quite a journey between dreaming and doing. Our journey started unexpectedly when Sven spontaneously drove to the Dordogne to visit a house we’d seen online. That particular house wasn’t the one, but later that afternoon, he video-called enthusiastically from a completely different property, near Monpazier. Before we fully realised it, our French adventure had begun.
Maison Saint-Blaise turned out to be exactly what we’d been searching for: robustly built with thick natural stone walls, surrounded by mature trees, and offering plenty of space to fully experience the Dordogne. While renting it out wasn’t initially our plan, we quickly discovered the two separate floors made it perfect for families who wanted to enjoy holidays together while still having their own space and privacy.
Our first guests arrived shortly after, and we soon realised the difference between simply renting out a house and truly being hosts. That personal touch, the joy of helping someone plan a special anniversary or memorable family event, is what makes it meaningful for us.
Sandra’s background in IT and professional coaching helps her intuitively understand what guests truly value in a holiday experience. Sven, with his experience as project manager and fluency in French, has built a warm local network over the years. Together, and with our two children, we’ve become connected to the Dordogne region, appreciating each season for its charms; from summer evening markets to autumn forest walks, cosy winter evenings, and springtime when nature awakens again.
Each year, we work on making Maison Saint-Blaise even more beautiful and comfortable. We regularly implement improvements and add extra services, always with care and respect for the original character and charm of the house. We’re believers in slow travel, less rush, more joy, and deeper connection. That’s why we love sharing our personal tips for the region.

Delightful five-bedroom villa in the heart of Dordogne exuding rustic charm & modern comfort
A year ago we visited this house which Sandra and Sven had just bought. There was a lot to do to it before opening! We are amazed by how much they’ve achieved in a year. Maison Saint-Blaise is beautiful now, after the incredible hard work, determination and teamwork of Sven and Sandra.
We really enjoyed helping them along the way, and celebrating with drinks by the pool!
