Maison Saint-Blaise article in Maison en France magazine

Sandra: From Holiday Home to Business

In the summer 2025 issue of Maison en France, a popular Dutch magazine about buying, working and living in France, Sandra Mengerink wrote an article about how our holiday home adventure gradually turned into something bigger. From a place to spend holidays, to welcoming guests, and eventually building a professional approach to helping other holiday home owners.

The article highlights to (aspiring) hosts of holiday homes how deeply understanding their guests, strong online representation and clear management makes all the difference in attracting people who will enjoy your place.

Sven: Coming Home in the Dordogne

In the Spring 2026 issue of Maison en France, a popular Dutch magazine about buying, working and living in France, Sven van Acker wrote a personal piece about how he gradually came to feel at home in the French countryside. From childhood memories of French cartoons watched without subtitles, to a family dinner where he discovered that his grandfather fled France as a young boy in 1941, to long afternoons observing the woods near the house, to shared meals where civet is ladled from an old cocotte and where no one cares about titles or status.

The article is a quiet reflection on culture, belonging, and the slow rituals that turn a newcomer into a neighbour. About learning to listen to the land, sharing a table with those who have lived there all their lives, and the unexpected moments when somewhere far away starts to feel like where you are from.

The Gîte Podcast

Rupert Springfield, Gîte Guru, invited us to share our experience as holiday home owners in the Dordogne. In this episode of The Gîte Podcast, we talked about:

  • What it takes (and how much fun it is!) to run a holiday home business guests will love
  • Why we chose to focus on quality, service and figuring out who would love our place best
  • How a genuine, personal approach and connection helps both the guest and the owner

The podcast offers practical advice for homeowners who want to manage their property with confidence and for holiday home makers it is an interesting peak behind-the-scenes. For us, it was an opportunity to speak not only as hosts, but also as experienced property managers who know the balance between hospitality, local networks and online visibility.
